AKLEH And DUKE Among Major Roads Closed This Weekend

These roads will be closed for the KL Marathon

The Malaysian Royal Police (PDRM) have confirmed that the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) and Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE) are two of the few major roads that will be closed to ensure the safety of runners during the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) 2022 this weekend.

This international level race which will consist of four categories, the 5km race, the 10km race, the 21km half marathon and the full 42km marathon is expected to see about 20,000 runners both local and international. This was confirmed by Kuala Lumpur Chief of Police, Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim.

Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim also stated, “The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will carry out closures and diversions for roads involved in the race, which will begin at 3am. The road closure and reopening will be done in stages and the roads are expected to be fully reopened at about 11am on Sunday.”

Moreover, for the 5 and 10km runs on Saturday, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR), Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Ampang (town centre), Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Kuching heading towards the Dato Onn Roundabout will be closed at 5.30 a.m. and Jalan Raja (Dataran Merdeka) will be closed from midnight.

On top of that, Both sides of Jalan Parliament, which are Jalan Kinabalu heading towards the Dato Onn Roundabout and Jalan Cenderawasih to Jalan Lembah as well as the Hishammuddin Roundabout to Jalan Raja will also be closed at 6 a.m.

Meanwhile on Sunday, the Dato Onn Roundabout to Jalan Tun Perak/Jalan Raja Laut,  Jalan TAR to Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Lebuh Ampang to Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Tun Perak to the Dato Onn Roundabout and Jalan TAR from Chow Kit to Dataran Merdeka will also be closed for the 21km half marathon and 42km marathon.

Do note that Jalan Raja Laut to Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Kuching to Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Sultan Abdul Aziz from Sentul to Jalan TAR, Jalan Pahang from the Pahang Roundabout to Jalan TAR and Jalan Raja Muda Abd Aziz from Chow Kit to the junction of Jalan Raja Abdullah will also all be closed.

The AKLEH and DUKE will both be closed on Saturday at 11 p.m. while Jalan Kuching heading to Cheras will be closed on Sunday at 5.30 a.m. an vehicles will be diverted towards DUKE heading to Ampang on Sunday. The police also advise those taking part in the marathon to use public transportation such as a bus or the LRT.
