Ferrari SP-8 Is A New One-Off With F40 Inspired Wheels
Ferrari SP-8 joins the growing list of “One-Offs” from the Prancing Horse.
Ferrari is all about exclusivity and so it only makes sense that they regularly produce “One-Offs” for individual clients with too much pocket change. Over the years the list has included the SP3JC, the SP51 and the SP48 Unica. Today, we’ve been shown the SP-8. Like the SP51, this too is being commissioned by a Taiwanese collector, perhaps even the same one, but Ferrari won’t say.
The Ferrari SP-8 is a roadster…just two seats, a large engine in front and a drop top to keep things as pure and as fun as possible. It was designed in collaboration with Flavio Manzoni’s design team at the Ferrari Styling Centre.
The SP-8 is built on the same chassis as the F8 Spider and even gets powered by the same award-winning 3.9L twin turbo V8 engine. Even with the huge design changes, the SP-8 is said to feature the same acoustic comfort as the F8. This was thanks to extensive wind tunnel testing. The front grille design was also inspired by the SP-8’s time in the wind tunnel. It is made from a single 3D-printed aluminum mould.
The rear lights use the same lenses that are found in the Ferrari Roma while the windscreen and taipipes are treated in the same way as the 296 GTB. Finally, the five spoke wheels take its design from the Ferrari F40 with some additional inspiration coming from other classic rims from Ferrari Sports Prototypes.
The colour chosen to link the bodywork sections was developed from scratch and is called Blu Scuro Stellato. They also specially formulated the matte Argento Micalizzato paint that pairs to the glossy iridescent Blue Sandstone carbon-fibre sections. Inside, the Ferrari SP-8 is upholstered in laser-etched Navy Blue Alcantara with gradient effect cloth. The carpets are in specific twill fabric with an iridescent effect.
