After all, the BYD Seal has not launched yet, so will the Avatr 12 beat it here?
The Avatr 12 sedan from Avatr Technology, a former joint venture between Changan and Nio established in 2018, with each party holding a 50 percent stake in the JV. Nio withdrew from the company two years later, in 2020, due to financial troubles and In 2021, Changan introduced a new partner who replaced Nio, battery giant CATL
So far Avatr has a few products in its portfolio, including the Avatr 12 sedan and it has officially started deliveries in 40 cities around China. The electric sedan packs 578hp of power, lots of Huawei tech inside, and no rear window. Since its November launch, it has received over 20,000 orders. Is it coming to Malaysia next?
Moreover, the Avatr 12 (pronounced one-two) is the brand’s second car and sells for 300,800 yuan to 400,800 yuan (RM196,965 to RM256,409) in China. It is a large sedan, measuring 5,020mm in length, 1,999mm in width and 1,460mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,020mm.
It also comes in two powertrain options namely a RWD 230kW option and an AWD 425kW option. The AWD version can accelerate to 100km/h from a standstill in just 3.9 seconds. Both versions store electricity in a 94.5kWh battery from CATL, which provides 700km and 650km CLTC range, respectively.
The car can also charge up to 200km worth of range in 10 minutes thanks to its 750V high-voltage ultra-fast charging support. Inside the car, is a long 35.4-inch CD screen stretched from driver to passenger. It also has a smaller 15.6-inch central control screen. The vehicle is powered by Huawei’s cabin SW HarmomyOS 4.
On top of that, Avatr has a design center in Munich, Germany, where the 12 was created. Interestingly, Changan bets a lot on Europe when it comes to design. Its other EV brand, Deepal, has a design headquarters in Turin, Italy, and is led by ex-GM veteran Bertrand Bach.
When it comes to other equipment, the Avatr 12 has a dimming sunroof, electrically-powered doors, digital rear view mirrors, hidden door handles, frameless windows, R21 wheels with Brembo brakes, no rear window, and a roofline flowing into a hatchback.
The young EV maker has two cars on the market, the Avatr 11 SUV and the Avatr 12 fastback sedan. In November, the brand delivered 4,080 units of the Avatr 11 in China. In September, during the IAA Mobility, Avatr announced its plans to sell its EV in Europe and even a possible production base in the future as well.
