Chery EXEED Sterra Will Deliver 700km Driving Range With NEW CATL Battery
The EXEED Sterra will be launched in Malaysia as Chery’s first premium electric car
Chery has a sub-brand for its electric cars and the EXEED Sterra will be the first battery powered Chery to use the latest CATL battery which will deliver class best fast charging time, 3.8 seconds acceleration and a possible 700 kilometers of battery driving range.
Chery Automobile will be the first electric vehicle manufacturer to use the new superfast charging battery which Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) brought to market in August this year.
The Chery electric vehicle to use this latest battery will be the sleek looking EXEED Sterra which was previewed at the recent Chery User Summit 2023.
Equipped with CATL’s Shenxing battery, the Exeed Sterra will be sold in most markets in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia which includes Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the EXEED Sterra is expected to be priced at about CNY300,000 (which is about RM196,000 before logistics and warranty costs are added on). This means, this EXEED Sterra could have a retail selling price of about RM250k or so if launched in Malaysia before the end of 2024.
Interestingly, it was on August 16, that CATL launched Shenxing, the world’s first 4C superfast charging LFP battery, capable of delivering 400 km of driving range with a 10-minute charge as well as a range of over 700 km on a single full charge.
Shenxing is expected to considerably alleviate fast charging anxiety for EV users, and opens up an era of EV superfast charging.
With the advancement of battery technology and the significant improvement of overall performance of EV batteries, the industry has achieved long driving range for EVs. Currently fast charging anxiety has become the top factor that stops consumers from shifting to EVs.
Focusing on the very nature of electrochemistry, CATL continues its innovation in material and electrochemistry and system structure in an all-round way, achieving superfast charging, high energy density and high level of safety at the same time in a creative manner. Shenxing pushes beyond the boundaries of the performance of LFP chemistry, leading innovation in the battery industry.
Sodium-ion batteries will break through resource bottlenecks and is a cost-effective choice, CATL said, without giving further details.
