0BMW 4 Series Family Gets Updated, Including M4 Models
The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and i4 remain pre-LCI for now.
It feels like just yesterday the world had to come to terms with the beaver teeth grille of the 4 Series when in reality that actually happened before the first of the lockdowns were put in place. Now it’s 2024 and it’s time the BMW 4 Series family got its “Life Cycle Impulse” or facelift models.
BMW showed four new 4 Series models today – the 4 Series Coupé, 4 Series Convertible, M4 Coupé and M4 Convertible. There’s no sign of a new Gran Coupé model, but it’s likely coming alongside the all-electric BMW i4 which shares this same bodystyle.
Starting with the 4 Series Coupé and Convertible models we see minor design changes in the form of a new headlight design with vertically-arranged LED daytime running lights, a revised BMW kidney grille structure with a mesh structure on the inside and matt chrome surrounds.
The rear also gets a revised look with laser taillights and an interesting graphic. The optional M Sport package gives you larger diameter exhaust tailpipes.
Inside, the curved display now comes with BMW Operating System 8.5 with a new home screen and menu structure. BMW Maps now comes with the new Augmented View function. With the M Sport package, M Performtex velour-like material can be optioned.
Under the hood, the six cylinder model comes with a 48V mild hybrid system now. Petrol models include the 420i 4-cylinder turbo with 184hp and 300Nm of torque, the 430i xDrive 4-cylinder turbo with 245hp and 400Nm of torque, and the M440i xDrive 6-cylinder mild hybrid with 374hp and 500Nm of torque.
As for the BMW M4 Coupé and Convertible models, you get the same updates to the lights and grille. To distinguish the M models, you can option these vehicles with a pretty garish M Design hood graphic.
Inside, there’s a new steering wheel with an Alcantara finish. Prices are up, but so are power figures. The M4 models are available in three flavours – all powered by a 3.0L twin turbo straight six. The standard BMW M4 has 473hp while the M4 Competition cranks things up to 503hp. There’s also the M4 Competition xDrive model with 523hp and all-wheel drive.
