Mercedes-Benz EV Catches Fire While Charging At JB Showroom
Let’s wait for the Bomba report before jumping to conclusions about what happened to this Mercedes-Benz EV
We all know that with electric vehicles (EVs) becoming more and more popular in Malaysia and across the globe, some problems are bound to arise. So what happened with this Mercedes-Benz EQB fire then? Let’s see.
Now, it should be noted that Larkin Fire and Rescue Station operation commander, Azmi Johar noted that it is likely that the fire was NOT started by the EV battery, but rather some non-battery source which then escalated to a battery fire due to the battery being close to the source of the fire.

To make matters worse, this Mercedes-Benz EQB catching fire comes after another EV, a Tesla model Y, caught fire a few months ago in Puchong. So while this is definitely a weird coincidence, it is also not something that would be possible with an ICE vehicle so the tried and tested petrol/diesel is definitely safer than EVs.

On top of that, Johar also stated, they found the Mercedes-Benz EQB model on fire while it was being charged and that the fire had all but totaled the car, along with the structure of the showroom as well as the EV charging bay. The car was parked next to a DC fast charger as well.

Clearly, Mercedes-Benz is going to investigate this incident thoroughly and share the findings in time.
