BMW iX xDrive40 Discontinued In Malaysia, Other Variants Upgraded

The BMW iX lineup gets upgraded without a base mode xDrive40 option.

The BMW iX may not be a good looking car, but it’s certainly appealing to the typical electric vehicle buyer who wants to be noticed in a zero-emissions vehicle. However, in the face of a new Model 3 at a much lower price point, the value proposition of the iX falls apart, even if it’s larger and more feature-rich.

With that in mind, BMW Malaysia has updated the iX line-up, dropping the basic xDrive40 model while upgrading the iX xDrive50 Sport and iX M60 high performance model. What’s more, these updated variants come with a price drop besides getting some minor upgrades, so their value for money goes up.

The BMW iX xDrive50 Sport is now priced at RM465,800 while the iX M60 comes in at RM579,800 – the 5-year BMW Service & Repair Warranty and maintenance package is an additional RM33,200.

Malaysian BMW iX Upgrades For 2024

The BMW iX xDrive50 Sport now comes with AC Charging Professional, which bumps up the AC charging capability to 22kW, up from 11kW. This allows both iX models to complete fill up in less than 5 hours and 30 minutes when charging with the appropriate AC charger in public or at home. Previously, AC charging would take double the time – 11 hours for a full charge for the xDrive50 model. The M60 already featured 22kW AC Charging. The DC Fast charging capability remains at 195kW for both variants.

The BMW iX xDrive50 Sport also gets a suspension upgrade. It now comes with adaptive two-axle air suspension, matching the M60 model’s. The iX xDrive50 Sport also gets Parking Assistant Professional, already found on the M60.

Other upgrades that are more electronic/digital in nature include:

  • BMW Operating System 8.5
  • Comfort Access
  • Digital Key Plus (smartphone unlock and start)

Notable Downgrades

We mentioned earlier that the pricing is better this time around despite upgrades. Well that’s because some equipment has actually been omitted or downgraded. Both models no longer feature Laserlight headlamps. Gesture Control has also been dropped.
