Leapmotor has 3 REEV models already, will any of them arrive in Malaysia?
We all know that EVs simply cannot compete when it comes to range and many EV owners often find themselves feeling the dreaded range anxiety on long trips, however, Leapmotor, one of China’s leading NEV brands under Stellantis, recently unveiled revolutionary new technology it dubs the Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) which could completely negate the issue.

We can say this with full confidence as Leapmotor has used this REEV tech to complete an impressive 3,000km overland journey from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, to Johor, Malaysia. This expedition served as a real-world showcase of Leapmotor’s latest generation of REEVs and silenced any doubt about their capabilities.
Moreover, dubbed the ASEAN Expedition Drive, the journey featured three Leapmotor REEV models, namely the C10 REEV, the C11 REEV and the six-seater C16 REEV. These REEVs are designed to blend the benefits of EVs with the range and convenience of a petrol engine generator, making them ideal for long-distance travel across diverse terrains and climates.

The expedition culminated in a 10-day tour across Peninsular Malaysia, held from 14 to 23 April, with stops in major cities from Penang to Johor. During this leg, the vehicles visited authorised Leapmotor showrooms across the country, allowing Malaysians to experience the brand’s REEV technology firsthand.
A standout model in the lineup is the Leapmotor C10 REEV, which unlike the all-electric C10 EV available locally, is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol four cylinder serving as a generator to recharge the 28.4kWh battery pack.

On top of that, working in tandem with a 158kW electric motor, the C10 REEV offers a remarkable driving range of up to 1,150km of NEDC range, combining long-range capability with the smooth, quiet performance of electric drive and offering owners both peace of mind and sustainability without compromise.
The ASEAN Expedition Drive not only demonstrated the innovative spirit of Leapmotor’s REEV lineup but also marked a significant step in the brand’s expansion into Southeast Asia. By pushing the boundaries of what hybrid-electric technology can achieve in real-world driving conditions, Leapmotor aims to redefine expectations for eco-friendly mobility in the region.

With a growing focus on sustainable transport and energy efficiency, Leapmotor’s innovative REEV models may finally be the balance between traditional and future-first automotive enthusiasts, not just in Malaysia, but globally. Perhaps this might truly be the sustainable future we were promised with EVs and it is ironically a blend of EV and ICE.
