New BMW M5 Now with an Electrified Drive System
New BMW M5 exudes power and purpose with a confident, athletic stance and motorsport-inspired proportions. Its low-slung profile, flared wheel arches, and sculpted aprons create a commanding visual presence, while clean surfaces and bold character lines highlight its performance-driven design. Weighing in at about 2.5 tonnes, it has gained weight over its outgoing sibling.
Inside the New BMW M5, high-performance character meets premium comfort in a driver-focused cockpit that reflects the vehicle’s motorsport heritage. At its centre is the BMW Curved Display, comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, both powered by BMW Live Cockpit Professional, supplemented with M-specific graphics.
Intuitive control is offered via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and the centre console’s exclusive M Controller. The redesigned M multifunction steering wheel — now featuring a flattened bottom, red 12 o’clock marker, and M shift paddles — places key functions at the driver’s fingertips, including M1/M2 custom modes, M Hybrid and M mode selectors, and a signature red Start/Stop button.
The cockpit’s ambiance is augmented by the BMW Interaction Bar and ambient lighting, which respond dynamically to the activated drive mode, be it Road, Sport, or Track. Premium two-tone Merino leather upholstery is paired with carbon fibre trim inlaid with high-gloss silver threads, M seat belts, and an Alcantara anthracite headliner for an unmistakably sporty yet luxurious finish.
M multifunction seats with illuminated M5 logos offer exceptional support, with electric adjustment, lumbar support, memory function, and seat heating for both driver and front passenger. Comfort extends throughout the cabin with 4-zone automatic air conditioning, a Comfort Access system, and a wireless charging tray.
Rear passengers enjoy generous space and legroom, while the cleverly integrated high-voltage battery ensures a full 466 litres of boot capacity.
Rounding off the immersive interior experience is the Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, featuring 18 loudspeakers, 655W power, and 9 channels, along with an integrated interior camera for added convenience and peace of mind.
At the heart of the New BMW M5 lies an all-new M Hybrid powertrain — combining a high-performance V8 engine with electrified drive to mark a bold new chapter in BMW M history.
The high-performance M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine delivers 430 kW (585 hp), working in tandem with a fifth-generation BMW eDrive electric motor producing 145 kW (197 hp) to deliver a combined system output of 727 hp and a staggering 1,000 Nm of torque. With power channelled through the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, the New BMW M5 achieves blistering acceleration, reaching 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and 200 km/h in just 10.9 seconds.
The seamless interplay between electric and combustion power unlocks an entirely new dimension of drive responsiveness and elasticity. Instantaneous acceleration is further heightened by “Boost Control,” which delivers peak torque on demand between 30 and 150 km/h — activated with a simple pull of the left shift paddle in M Track mode.
When electric torque supports the V8 under full throttle, mid-range sprints such as 80–120 km/h take just 2.9 seconds quicker than its predecessor.
The V8’s iconic high-revving soundtrack is enhanced by the BMW M Sport exhaust system and the acoustically tuned BMW IconicSounds Electric when operating in hybrid mode.
The M Hybrid’s high-voltage lithium-ion battery is integrated flat within the underbody, preserving both a low centre of gravity and generous cabin space. With a net capacity of 18.6 kWh, the high-voltage battery supports electric driving for up to 69 kilometres (WLTP).
Charging is managed via the Combined Charging Unit (CCU), with AC charging of up to 11 kW enabling a full recharge in just over three hours.
