WTCA Commences Mass Production Of Its Second CKD Model, The GAC EMKOO

The GAC EMKOO is now locally assembled here in Malaysia thanks to WTCA

WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA), the official distributor of GAC vehicles in Malaysia, has reached a new milestone with the commencement of mass production for its second locally assembled (CKD) model, the GAC EMKOO. The vehicle is being assembled at the WTCA assembly plant located in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur.

This significant achievement highlights the growing strength of the technical partnership between WTCA and GAC International. It follows the successful local assembly of the GAC GS3 EMZOOM in the previous year, signaling steady progress in their collaboration.

Moreover, the Start of Production (SOP) of the EMKOO is a clear indication of WTCA’s commitment to increasing localisation, further supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a key player in the regional automotive manufacturing sector. The SOP ceremony was officiated by Mr. Tan Keng Meng, CEO of WTCA, and Mr. Ye Shao Jian, Vice GM of GAC International.

The event also saw the participation of key representatives from both organisations. Among them were Ms. Yap Yoke Moi, Chief Operating Officer of Business Operation, and Mr. Loh Ling Howe, Chief Operating Officer of Commercial, representing WTCA. GAC Group was represented by Mr. Li JianLu, Director of the Technical Center, and Ms. Carrie Liu, KD Project Manager. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the occasion, symbolising the strong bilateral cooperation driving this initiative forward.

Mr. Tan expressed his pride in the project’s progress, stating, “The launch of EMKOO mass production marks an important step in our CKD journey. It showcases our ability to meet global manufacturing standards while assembling cutting-edge vehicles locally. The EMKOO reflects our joint mission to offer Malaysian customers innovative and technologically advanced products.”

Echoing the sentiment, Mr. Ye Shao Jian commented, “The EMKOO’s successful SOP reflects the strong synergy between WTCA and GAC. We believe this model will redefine expectations in the mid-size SUV market in Malaysia, with its futuristic styling, advanced safety technologies, and performance-driven engineering. It further demonstrates GAC’s long-term commitment to localisation and sustainable growth in Malaysia.”

The GAC EMKOO is slated for official market introduction in Malaysia in the third quarter of 2025. With this second CKD model now in production, WTCA solidifies its role in advancing local automotive capabilities while delivering quality, innovation, and next-generation vehicle design to Malaysian consumers.
