2025 Proton X50 Facelift Spied on Malaysian Roads in full camo.
The Proton X50 is about to get a significant update. A camouflaged prototype of the 2025 Proton X50 facelift has been spotted on local roads, giving us our first look at the changes coming to the the vehicle.

From this angle, we can see a redesigned tailgate featuring sharper lines and new full-width LED taillights, lending the SUV a more upscale and modern look. The number plate recess has been repositioned further down the tailgate, aligning with the styling seen on the Geely Binyue L, the model on which this facelift is likely based.
The rear bumper retains the quad exhaust tips, a distinctive signature of the X50, but now includes a new diffuser design. While less aggressive than the earlier prototype based on the Geely Binyue Cool, this version still includes sporty elements—such as the dramatic “Batmobile-style” rear wing, likely carried over from the Cool variant.

Inside, major updates are expected as well. Drawing from the Geely Binyue L’s revised cabin layout, we may see a revamped dashboard, new air-cond vents, twin grab handles on the centre console, and a new translucent gear selector. The facelift could also adopt Flyme Auto, Geely’s latest infotainment system, featuring a 14.6-inch touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital cluster—a big leap from the current setup.
Performance-wise, Proton might introduce Geely’s newer 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engine found on the new Coolray, producing 180 PS and 290 Nm, paired with the familiar 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. This would represent a healthy bump over the current TGDI unit, which maxes out at 177 PS and 255 Nm. It would make it a little awkward for potential X70 customers who will be asking themselves why the smaller car has an additional cylinder and power.

With a possible mid-2025 launch, the updated X50 might just arrive in time to make Malaysian customers think twice before spending money on the upcoming Chery Tiggo Cross, which is said to be a sub-RM100,000 competing crossover with the option for a hybrid powertrain.
