Toyota has a whole lineup here anyway, but a new hybrid in the Aygo X couldn’t hurt
Toyota has raised the bar in the compact crossover segment with the introduction of the new Aygo X Hybrid, the first full hybrid in the A-segment. Building on the success of the stylish and fun-to-drive Aygo X, this latest model brings a new level of efficiency, performance and environmental consciousness in Europe. Will Malaysia get it too?

First introduced in 2022, the Toyota Aygo X has already sold over 287,000 units across Europe. Its compact dimensions, bold crossover styling, and urban-friendly handling made it an instant favourite among young and style-conscious drivers. Now, with the addition of hybrid technology, Toyota aims to broaden its appeal by making it more engaging to drive.
Moreover, the Aygo X Hybrid features Toyota’s latest generation hybrid powertrain, shared with the Yaris and Yaris Cross, replacing the older 1.0-litre petrol engine. With a total system output of 116 DIN hp, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds while achieving class-leading CO₂ emissions of just 86 g/km (WLTP, projected).

A notable innovation is the hybrid battery layout. For the first time in a Toyota hybrid, the battery cells are arranged in a longitudinal configuration across the rear floor to save space, complemented by relocating the auxiliary battery under the boot. The result is a compact hybrid with no compromise on practicality.
Driving refinement has also been enhanced. Improvements to the exhaust system, additional insulation, and soundproofing elements such as thicker window glass create a quieter, smoother ride. The GA-B platform gives it a low centre of gravity and a tight 4.7-metre turning radius, perfect for city driving.

On top of that, the updated design features a more sculpted front end with a new grille, sleeker LED headlights, and flared wheel arches. Bi-tone colour schemes, 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels and a stylish optional canvas roof add to its visual appeal. Inside, new tech like a 7-inch digital cluster, wireless phone charging, and Toyota’s Safety Sense suite make it modern and safe.
Additionally, the new Aygo X GR SPORT variant brings sportier suspension, sharp styling, and motorsport-inspired elements for those wanting a more dynamic experience. Environmentally, Toyota has cut the Aygo X Hybrid’s lifetime carbon footprint by 18 percent, thanks to renewable energy use, smarter logistics and eco-friendly materials like SakuraTouch.

The Toyota Aygo X Hybrid goes on sale in Europe by late 2025, marking a bold new era for compact urban mobility.
