Roslan Abdullah Officially At GWM As COO Now

As reported last week, industry veteran Roslan Abdullah has officially started at GWM Malaysia.

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has officially announced the appointment of Roslan Abdullah as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective immediately. This strategic move is aimed at accelerating the brand’s local expansion and deepening its presence in the competitive Malaysian automotive market. We reported on this last week, but thought we’d share some further insights from the official announcement from GWM Malaysia.

Roslan Abdullah brings with him extensive experience from the automotive sector, having held leadership positions in major automotive brands operating in Malaysia. His appointment marks a significant milestone for GWM Malaysia as it focuses on scaling operations, strengthening brand recognition, and expanding its product portfolio locally.

In his new role, Roslan will lead the company’s daily operations, sales and marketing strategies, network development, and customer service enhancements. His leadership is expected to play a critical role in refining GWM Malaysia’s business direction and building stronger relationships with dealers, government stakeholders, and industry players.

This appointment comes as GWM Malaysia continues to roll out new energy vehicles (NEVs), including fully electric and hybrid models, under its brands such as Haval, Ora, Tank, and Poer. The company aims to leverage Roslan’s expertise to optimise its supply chain, improve customer engagement, and localise its operations further in line with Malaysia’s EV roadmap. Under Roslan’s leadership, the company is expected to increase its focus on localisation efforts, including CKD (completely knocked-down) assembly and partnerships with local vendors. This supports GWM’s long-term commitment to Malaysia as a strategic hub in Southeast Asia.

The appointment is also a reflection of GWM’s broader strategy to enhance talent acquisition and leadership capacity across its regional subsidiaries. With a firm footing in the electric vehicle market and an expanding dealership network, GWM Malaysia is poised to become a stronger competitor in the Malaysian auto industry.

Roslan’s vision aligns with GWM’s growth ambitions and is expected to enhance the brand’s relevance and responsiveness to Malaysian consumers. As GWM continues to innovate and grow its product offerings, this leadership change is a step towards long-term sustainability and market competitiveness in the region.
