Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Breaks New Ground With Dual Lap Records

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT makes history in the USA and Abu Dhabi

Porsche’s all-electric flagship, the Taycan Turbo GT, continues to impress on racetracks worldwide, recently securing two more lap records. The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package has now become the fastest series-production electric vehicle at both the Road Atlanta circuit in Georgia, USA and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

At Road Atlanta, professional driver and Porsche brand ambassador Patrick Long clocked a record-breaking lap time of 1:27.1 minutes on the 4.088-kilometre circuit. This significantly improved upon the previous record of 1:33.8 minutes, set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2020.

Moreover, despite damp patches on the track and mild ambient conditions of around 24°C, Long praised the precision of the Taycan’s handling and the effectiveness of its Porsche Active Ride system in maintaining balance and body control.

In stark contrast, the Yas Marina Circuit record was set during the nighttime to avoid extreme daytime heat. Ramez Azzam, a UAE-based GT driver and race instructor, completed a lap in just 2:07.2 minutes, only 1.1 seconds shy of the touring car record. With track temperatures nearing 28°C, Azzam highlighted the Taycan’s agility, stating the electric sedan proved its strength not only on straights but across a full, demanding lap.

On top of that, the Emirates Motorsport Association officially recognised this achievement, further cementing Porsche’s standing in the EV performance arena. These feats build on a growing list of Taycan Turbo GT accomplishments. In February 2025, Felipe Nasr set an electric vehicle record at São Paulo’s Interlagos Circuit with a time of 1:42.1 minutes.

Meanwhile, Porsche development driver Lars Kern secured records at both the Shanghai International Circuit (2:11.2 minutes) and Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca (1:27.8 minutes), and in a pre-production Taycan Turbo GT, shattered his Nürburgring Nordschleife record with a time of 7:07.5 minutes.

The Taycan Turbo GT models are Porsche’s most powerful road-going EVs to date, with over 1,100 PS available through a silicon carbide-enhanced inverter. Attack Mode delivers an extra 120 kW for short bursts, similar to Porsche’s Formula E systems.

With weight reductions of up to 75 kg and the Weissach package further tailored for the racetrack, these vehicles combine lightweight design, carbon components and finely tuned suspension to redefine electric performance on the circuit.
