Allianz Malaysia Champions Rider Safety In Growing P-Hailing Industry

Allianz Malaysia thinks rider safety is a shared duty and we agree

Allianz Malaysia Berhad (Allianz Malaysia) has partnered with the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and major p-hailing platforms, foodpanda Malaysia, Lalamove Malaysia, and Grab Malaysia, to advocate for improved safety measures in the rapidly expanding p-hailing sector.

This collaborative effort emphasizes the shared responsibility of corporations, government agencies, riders, and the public in safeguarding the well-being of gig economy workers. At the Allianz Malaysia Media Forum 2025, stakeholders from across the industry convened to address the risks p-hailing riders face and to explore meaningful, collaborative strategies aimed at building a safer working environment.

Moreover, the event highlighted the essential role riders play in sustaining Malaysia’s delivery economy and stressed the need for comprehensive safety strategies. The p-hailing industry, which includes food and parcel deliveries, has seen significant growth in recent years due to rising consumer demand for fast and convenient services.

However, this growth has also brought attention to the vulnerability of riders who face daily road hazards while serving communities and supporting their families. In line with its mission to protect and empower, Allianz Malaysia is actively working with MIROS and leading delivery platforms to improve safety standards.

The forum also featured a panel discussion where representatives shared insights into the industry’s challenges and the urgent need for unified action to ensure rider safety. P-hailing riders are often the primary earners in their households and play a vital role in connecting communities with essential goods and services.

On top of that, although several p-hailing companies have already launched internal safety programmes, Allianz Malaysia underscores that lasting change requires joint and sustained efforts across all sectors.

“Allianz Malaysia believes rider safety is a shared duty,” said CEO Sean Wang. “Beyond insurance, we are committed to giving back to the community by supporting initiatives that enhance road safety for all.” Echoing this, Ir. Ts. Azhar Hamzah, Director at MIROS, stressed the importance of data-driven research in developing safety solutions that protect riders and their families.

To further support this mission, Allianz Malaysia, in collaboration with the Road Safety Marshal Club, will conduct two training programmes. The first targets p-hailing riders, offering road safety and emergency preparedness training. The second is aimed at university students to foster safety awareness among youth.
