Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT GT XX Driven 5479km Nonstop In 24 Hours

Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT GT XX vehicle drove 5,479 km in 24 hours, setting a new record for the longest distance driven by an electric vehicle in that timeframe.

Interestingly, this new record, which was independently verified, was created on the Nardo track in Italy. In the trial, GT XX managed to record an average speed of 186 mph (about 299 km/hour), stopping only to carry out ultra-fast charging with up to 900 kW.

This achievement far exceeds the previous record (not the concept car) held by XPENG P7 (3,960 km) and Xiaomi SU7 Max (3,944 km).

Axial flux motors: The record-breaking drive featured the revolutionary axial flux motors that will be part of the upcoming AMG.EA high-performance architecture.

Liquid-cooled battery: The battery system also played a key role in the vehicle’s impressive endurance. This high-voltage battery in the CONCEPT AMG GT XX is a completely new development. It benefits from all the experience from the AMG ONE and Formula 1 as well as the knowledge of the best engineers from Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG

The High Performance Electric Battery (HP.EB) delivers a high power output with exceptional repeatability, guaranteeing the vehicle’s outstanding overall performance. This is paired with rapid energy absorption and high power density.

Contributing to the high system performance are three main aspects: new battery cell developments, direct cooling of the cells and high voltage. The charging performance likewise sets new benchmarks – again due to direct cooling.

This pairs with optimised thermal management of the cells and power lines during charging. The CONCEPT AMG GT XX achieves a very high average charging power of more than 850 kW at 1000 ampere over a wide range of the charging curve. This makes charging almost as fast as refuelling.

High-performance architecture: The technology used in the CONCEPT AMG GT XX is a precursor to a future four-door series-production sports car from Mercedes-AMG.

This event serves as a crucial validation of the new technologies and capabilities that will be present in Mercedes-AMG’s future performance vehicles, according to Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

The CONCEPT AMG GT XX also points to the future in its interior with the LABFIBER materials. This refers to innovative materials based on biotechnology. The technology programme features alternatives to leather and silk, both produced with the help of biotechnology. The door handles, for example, are made from the innovative silk alternative in orange to match the exterior.

In contrast, the front bucket seats are covered with the innovative LABFIBER Biotechnological Leather Alternative in Pearl Black. They are also based on carbon-fibre racing shells with ventilation openings and integrated headrests.

Behind the scenes, this success is the result of the hard work of a very large team. A total of 17 professional riders, including F1 racer George Russell, worked in a three-shift rotation. More than 100 personnel, from engineers on track to the mission control team at Affalterbach headquarters, Germany, were involved in this program.
