Vietnam’s TMT Group is officially entering the electric two-wheeler market under a new dedicated sub-brand: TMT e-Motor.
For many of us in Malaysia, TMT Motors Corporation is an unknown entity. Headquartered in Hanoi and established in 1976, TMT Motors built its foundation as a primary Vietnamese manufacturer, assembler, and distributor of commercial light trucks, heavy-duty vehicles, and specialized machinery. In recent years, the company executed a strategic pivot into passenger electrification. TMT gained widespread regional attention by partnering with the GM-SAIC-Wuling joint venture to locally assemble affordable micro-EVs, such as the Wuling HongGuang MINI EV, alongside developing its proprietary TMT-EGREEN public charging network.
Four Initial Models Aimed Across Distinct Rider Segments
Rather than entering the market with a single offering, TMT e-Motor is rolling out four models simultaneously in September 2026. The initial lineup is designed to cover a broad spectrum of urban transport needs:
- TMT Super Max (Fleet & Delivery): Engineered for commercial logistics and transport operators. Powered by a 4,000 W hub motor with a maximum payload capacity of 230 kg, it utilizes a dual Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery setup to deliver a claimed riding range of around 180 km.
- TMT Iris K7 (Personal Commuter): Targeted at mainstream urban riders, featuring a 3,000 W electric motor with a top speed of 70 km/h. Its dual 76V 24Ah LFP battery pack provides a claimed range of up to 180 km under standard testing conditions.
- TMT Tansy T1 (Student & Daily Urban): Aimed at high school students, university commuters, and short-distance city riders. Driven by a 1,200 W motor paired with dual LFP batteries, it offers up to 120 km of range per charge and carries an IP67 water-resistance rating.
- TMT X-Pro E1 (Stylized Concept): Features a sharp, angular exterior design, with detailed powertrain and performance specifications to be disclosed closer to the official launch.
All four models are researched, developed, and manufactured internally at TMT Motors’ primary assembly facility in Hung Yen, Vietnam.
Competitive Landscape and Broader Regional Implications
TMT e-Motor enters an increasingly dense marketplace. In its home market of Vietnam—which ranks as the world’s third-largest market for electric two-wheelers—electric two-wheeler sales surged by over 84 percent year-on-year in 2026. TMT faces direct competition from entrenched domestic leader VinFast, alongside specialized electric bike manufacturers like Yadea, Dat Bike, Selex, and Pega, as well as Japanese majors like Honda and Yamaha with their respective electric models.
Should TMT e-Motor consider expanding its export footprint across Southeast Asia into markets like Malaysia, its models would occupy a distinct niche. In Malaysia, where urban electric scooter adoption is steadily growing alongside government green-mobility incentives, TMT’s lineup would sit directly between budget-oriented urban scooters and heavy-duty delivery fleets.
A delivery-focused model like the Super Max—with its 230 kg load capacity and 180 km range—could compete against commercial fleet scooters like the Eclimo ES-11 or Blueshark R1, targeting gig-economy platforms like Grab and Foodpanda. Meanwhile, the Tansy T1 and Iris K7 would align as affordable alternatives to popular urban electric two-wheelers like the VMOTO TC Max or BMW CE 02, appealing to university students and urban commuters seeking low operational costs.
