MG Motor To Start Assembly Of New MG Vehicles In Indonesia

MG Motor Indonesia announced plans to adopt a more aggressive approach to launching new models in 2026 to enhance sales performance.

MG plans a big push in Indonesia for 2026, focusing on local production with at least four new models, including the revealed MG S5 EV, the large MG G90 MPV, the updated MG ZS (ICE/HEV), and the compact MG 3 Hybrid, all aiming for competitive pricing and targeting various segments like electric, hybrid, and traditional petrol cars.

Incidentally, it looks MG is doing the same push in Malaysia with the recent October 2025 announcement of local assembly and market expansion.

Hary Kurniawan, Head of Marketing at MG Motor Indonesia, stated that the company intends to introduce at least four models in 2026, all of which will be locally assembled in Indonesia (completely knocked down / CKD).

“Currently, work is underway on more than four products. Of course, the situation and conditions regarding product preparation will be considered,” Hary stated in Jakarta on 17th December 2025.

He added that MG will optimize the SAIC Motor International factory located in Cikarang, West Java, which is also utilized by Wuling Motors.

In case you didn’t know this, SAIC Motor owns MG and is deeply involved with Wuling through the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture, making them key parts of SAIC’s global strategy, especially in electric vehicles (EVs), with Wuling known for popular models like the Hongguang Mini EV and Binguo, while MG targets stronger global growth with diverse EV/PHEV/ICE models.

Both brands leverage SAIC’s massive production and development capabilities, with Wuling models like the Bingo EV now entering markets like Malaysia via SGMW partnerships.

“At present, the focus is on CKD production. The capacity already exists, and it is being optimized,” he explained.

MG’s current flagship models include the ZS, 5 GT, 4 EV, ZS EV, VS HEV, and the Cyberster electric roadster.

The company continues to priorities electrified vehicles, particularly pure electric cars, which constitute a core segment of MG’s sales.

MG is a British car brand now owned by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC).
