Zeekr 7X Local Assembly Confirmed At Proton’s EV Plant In Tanjung Malim

Proton’s Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim is getting ready for 7X and other EV models

Zeekr will leverage parent company Geely’s massive commitment of RM39.5 billion (approx. USD10 billion) to transform Tanjong Malim into a regional automotive hub.

Incidentally, Zeekr has officially confirmed it will begin local assembly (CKD) in Malaysia, marking its first manufacturing footprint outside of China. The popular Zeekr 7X electric SUV is set to be the first model produced, likely at the Proton EV plant in Tanjung Malim. This strategic move aims to enhance competitiveness, strengthen supply efficiency, and solidify the brand’s presence in the local market.

Zeekr 7X

The very first local assembled Zeekr will be the very popular 7X electric SUV. As of February 2026, the Zeekr 7X is officially available in Malaysia with updated pricing following the removal of tax exemptions, ranging from RM182,800 to RM230,800. The 2026 lineup includes the RWD Standard (RM182,800), RWD Long Range (RM193,800), and AWD Performance (RM230,800), marking a slight increase of 1.6–1.8% from initial 2025 launch prices.

So, why is the 7X picked for Zeekr’s first local assembly model in Malaysia? Well, its high popularity with Malaysian EV buyers right now. It features a high-tech cabin with Nappa leather, 16-inch mini-LED infotainment, 13-inch digital cluster, and a 36-inch AR-HUD. Key amenities include ventilated/massage seats, 21-speaker sound, three-zone climate control, and a rear center console fridge, all powered by a Snapdragon 8295 chip.

The 7X assembly will be done at the Proton EV plant in Tanjong Malim, leveraging Geely-Proton facilities. While no specific date was given, it is expected to happen sometime March 2026. Zeekr also announced the upcoming launch of three new models in 2026, including the Zeekr 9X.

This move positions Malaysia as a central hub for Zeekr in the Southeast Asian region.

While official CKD pricing is not yet released, estimates suggest the starting price could drop to approximately RM162,000 once local assembly begins.

Zeekr aims for 10,000 cumulative sales by 2027 and targets 10,000 annual sales from 2028 onwards in Malaysia.

Proton’s EV plant has an initial annual capacity of 20,000 units, with future expansion plans to reach 45,000 units.
