JETOUR And JAECOO Popularity In Malaysia Rising Fast

In recent months we have seen how both JAECOO and Jetour (sub-brands under Chery Auto Group China) are seeing astronomical sales growth globally and also in the local Malaysian market with strong booking numbers and fast delivery.

Their explosive popularity can be broken down by their recent sales performance and market strategies which have seen their sales numbers inch closer to legacy car manufacturers and in some cases, even super seeding the sales of established auto manufacturers which has seen some showrooms closing and others converting to new brands from China.

Both these car manufacturer recently crossed the 1 million vehicle milestone in global sales. This rapid growth has made them one of the fastest-growing automotive brands in the world, with year-over-year sales sometimes surging by over 150% in specific markets like Malaysia.

Jetour

Jetour has exploded in popularity, even taking home top accolades like South Africa’s 2026 Car of the Year and also the Allianz DSF.my Vehicle of the year 2026 awards with its rugged T2 model.

Both brands are rapidly expanding their footprint in your region to meet surging demand. JAECOO is known for sleek, premium-styled off-roaders like the J7 PHEV (which boasts nearly 100 km of pure EV range and can travel over 1,200 km combined). JAECOO has expanded to over 53 outlets across Malaysia and it’s still growing.

Then, Jetour, relatively younger in its global debut, is positioned as a highly practical, value-for-money family SUV brand. Models like the sporty Dashing and the boxy T2 are capturing a large market share.

So, why are car consumers in the Middle East, Africa, South America and Malaysia pivoting to these brands in recent years?

Jetour

Premium Tech at Mass-Market Prices: Buyers are getting luxury features (Sony audio, panoramic sunroofs with sliding covers, heads-up displays, tech heavy cabin features, advanced ADAS) at a fraction of the cost of Japanese, Korean or European brands.

Aggressive Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) Tech: JAECOO’s PHEV variants hit the sweet spot for Malaysian drivers, offering high fuel efficiency without range anxiety as both brands have segment best ‘thermal efficiency’ which legacy auto manufacturers have taken decades to improve and these two Chinese brands have done better in just a few years.

Rapid After-Sales Setup: In response to earlier comments and criticisms over slow parts distribution a common issue among Chinese auto brands, both Jetour and JAECOO have aggressively scaled up its service centres and localised assembly to keep wait times down.
