0ISUZU ADDS TO D-MAX LINE-UP
Isuzu Malaysia has added another D-Max variant to its line-up of impressive pick-up trucks, the all-new 4×4 double cab Isuzu D-Max 2.5-litre Super Commonrail. This new model that boasts an exceptionally fuel efficient and highly flexible engine performance is expected to change the mindset of motorists about the way pick-up trucks perform. Featuring the advanced Super Commonrail diesel engine, the new D-Max is powered by Isuzu’s famed 4JK1-TC engine, one of the best selling 1-ton pick-up truck engines in the world with close to half a million units having been produced since its introduction in 2005.
Things you need to know about this new D-Max
At the heart of the new 2.5-litre Super Commonrail D-Max is its incredibly robust and highly-dependable 4-cylinder engine. As with all Isuzu engines, the new 4JK-1 engine is developed to provide reliable and efficient operation even when pushed to the extreme. Inside, the engine boasts of a melt-in liner and two-storey water jacket to effectively dissipate heat from the block and cylinder head. Fuel, oil and an EGR cooler further keep the engine running at its optimal temperature range for better performance. To further aid the efficiency of the engine, light-weight and sturdy alloy pistons are employed while the 16 valves are actuated by roller rocker arms that offer quieter and smoother operation. These are driven by a timing gear and chain system that not only require zero maintenance for reduced running cost, it also provides peace of mind as unlike rubber belts, the chain will not break unexpectedly leaving you stuck in the wilderness or with a hefty repair bill. The new 2,499cc engine also gets its excellent performance characteristics from its over-square configuration of 95.4mm x 87.4mm to give the D-Max sprightly performance. Maximum power of 85kW (116ps) is produced at 3,600rpm while maximum torque of 280Nm is developed from a low 1,800rpm till 2,200rpm. This represents an increase of 47 percent more power and 59 percent more torque over the direct-injection 2.5-litre D-Max.
This healthy performance is now mated to a new 5-speed manual gearbox that is specially developed to match the performance characteristics of the engine. This is further enhanced with the use of Isuzu’s famed Touch-On-The-Fly 4WD system that allows the driver to select between two- and four-wheel drive at speeds up to 100km/h at the simple touch of a button on the dashboard. ABS and EBD are also standard features on the new D-Max to enhance its safety capabilties. Inside the D-Max, owners will enjoy a high level of equipment and sophistication. The interior finishing is identical to its bigger 3-litre brethren’s. It comes with all the bells and whistles including its wonderful e-Lumax instrument panel complete with multi-information display, 2-DIN audio system, dual SRS airbags and leather-wrapped gear knob and steering wheel in the full-specification model.
Outwardly too, the new 2.5-litre Super Commonrail model shares a similar equipment list as the 3.0-litre model. This includes the use of powerful projector headlamps and fog lamps to keep driving safe even in the darkest of nights, aero-type side steps, chrome door mirrors with turn signal repeaters and reverse sensors. The new 2.5-litre Super Commonrail model will be available at all Isuzu dealerships throughout the country beginning October 1, 2010. As an introductory offer,
