The Proton e.MAS 7 Prime entered the electric vehicle market as Malaysia’s first national EV SUV and it has been a segment best seller since with a price from RM109k. There is even a waiting list right now, up to a few months for the high spec Premium variant.
Now, months after its launch, second-hand units are appearing on the pre-owned market and this does not have any negative vibes. Reasons can be simple. We have mentioned many times before, some Malaysians are just not ready to own an EV but rush to buy to join a popular ‘trend’.

Meanwhile, for savvy used car buyers evaluating whether a used e.MAS 7 Prime offers the best bang-for-your-ringgit EV experience we say this. Why not? Well, this advertised unit has almost RM30k depreciation (for sale at RM77k) in less than a year and the only close rival is the Dongfeng Vigo pre-registered units which is now being cleared for just RM79k and we suggested to our reader to look at this EV also (see advert below).

Driving above 110km/h increases consumption so expect high-speed range to drop closer to 230–250km. Running costs average around RM0.08 to RM0.10 per km when charged on standard home AC rates, significantly cheaper than equivalent ICE vehicles.
What You Need To Inspect Before Buying
State of Health (SoH) Diagnostic Report which you can request an official battery health diagnostic printout from a Proton e.MAS service center. Look for an SoH rating of 95% or higher.
Warranty Status Transfer which you need to confirm that the original factory warranty (typically 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty) remains valid and transferable to the new owner.
Software Updates & Connectivity which you will need to verify that the infotainment system (Flyme Auto OS) has received all software updates (such as Apple CarPlay / Android Auto integration patches).
EV’s deliver instant torque on tires. Inspect the 18-inch tires for uneven tread wear, which could indicate alignment issues or heavy acceleration habits by the prior owner.
Is a used Proton e.MAS 7 Prime right for you? Well, if you want a modern family EV crossover primarily for daily town commutes, school runs, daily office commuting and local trips, with low maintenance costs and solid build quality, then go ahead.
However, if you frequently make long-distance interstate highway journeys (Especially East Coast Malaysia) without planned charging stops; in that case, the larger 60.22 kWh Premium variant or a even a PHEV e.MAS 7 model is a better buy today.
