Lotus Engineering Expands Workforce

Lotus Engineering has hired two new managers to help strengthen its market presence in China and Europe as the company enjoys a third successive year of growth, it says.  Hui Zhang has been appointed general manager for China operations with the responsibility of generating third party business in China and improving the Lotus Engineering local delivery service structure. Zhang joins Lotus Engineering from Kiekert and has brings with him specific expertise in the European and Chinese automotive industries, the company says. Martin Elbs joins the company from the German engineering firm ETAS GmbH and will take up responsibility for heading sales in Europe. This role will focus on developing increased consultancy business in Europe and establishing a Lotus Engineering office in Germany, the statement said. 
400 new engineersLotus Engineering says that last year saw the third successive year of third party sales growth for the company, in line with the company’s five year business plan. In response to this, the company plans to recruit approximately 400 engineers by 2015. ”This is a very exciting time for us – this period will be seen as a renaissance in the history of Lotus. Whilst providing engineering support for the spectacular new range of Lotus cars unveiled at the Paris Motor show, we will significantly invest in and grow our engineering consultancy business to deliver our five year business plan,” Robert Hentschel, Director of Lotus Engineering said in the statement. Ultra boostThe company says it plans to increase its R&D projects including ‘Ultra Boost.’ The project will develop a pressure-charged concept engine that has the performance of a 5.0 liter V8 naturally-aspirated engine with the emissions of a small displacement four cylinder engine. Ultra Boost is a three-year project with partners including Shell, Jaguar Land Rover, leading UK academic institutions, and support from the government-backed Technology Strategy Board. The company is also involved in the REEVolution project, which aims to deliver advanced Jaguar, Lotus and Nissan engineering demonstrator vehicles with sub 50g/km tailpipe CO2 emissions.
