Chery Malaysia has made sure the first-ever Lee Chong Wei Cup gets the prize pool it deserves.
Chery Malaysia has officially stepped forward as the presenting partner for the inaugural Lee Chong Wei Cup (LCWC) youth badminton tournament, scheduled to take place from 29 August to 6 September 2026 at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.
The tournament is the brainchild of Malaysian sporting icon Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Lee Chong Wei—a three-time Olympic silver medallist and former world No. 1 for a record 349 weeks. The initiative aims to give back to Malaysian sports by discovering, nurturing, and elevating grassroots youth badminton talent across the nation.

With more than 2,000 young shuttlers already registered, the competition provides a direct pathway to national development, offering standout winners a coveted trial opportunity with the national setup at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM).
Empowering Grassroots Talent and Youth Sports
Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia, Men Lin Bo, noted that the automaker’s involvement extends far beyond conventional corporate sponsorship. He highlighted that badminton holds a special place in the hearts of Malaysians, embodying shared values of discipline, perseverance, and determination.
Through the partnership, Chery Malaysia seeks to foster community development, inspire aspiring young athletes to reach their full potential, and strengthen national sports development frameworks.

The inaugural Lee Chong Wei Cup stands as one of the most lucrative youth badminton events in the country, featuring a total prize purse of RM100,000.
- Age Categories: Structured across three competitive age brackets—Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17.
- Five Disciplines: Covers Boys’ Singles, Girls’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles, Girls’ Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
- Format & Scoring System: Contested in a single-leg knockout format, the tournament will trial the 15×3 scoring system ahead of its planned official debut on the BWF World Tour.

Prestige Trophy Design and ESG Commitments
During the official launch ceremony, Lee Chong Wei and Men Lin Bo unveiled the tournament’s official handcrafted championship trophy and category medals.
Carrying the design theme ‘Journey Towards Greatness & Inspiring Champions’, the trophy stands 60 cm tall and weighs approximately 12.5 kg. Finished in premium gold plating over solid brass and mounted on a teakwood base, the dynamic sculpture features an upward-facing shuttlecock symbolizing the pursuit of sporting excellence.
Beyond on-court competition, the Lee Chong Wei Cup incorporates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) community initiatives. Programs include:
- Upcycling worn racquets and used shuttlecocks to reduce sporting equipment waste.
- Organizing badminton coaching clinics for underprivileged students in rural schools.
- Promoting nationwide anti-bullying awareness and safe-sport athlete pledges.
The tournament at Stadium Juara will be open to badminton fans and supporters as Malaysia’s next generation of shuttlers compete for national honors.
