Ford considering a return to the WTCC

At the British Touring Car Championship, the regular Focus did quite well and won several races last season to end up as second overall. Ford now plans to push the Focus ST touring car to compete in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). It was just two months ago that Ford displayed the upcoming Focus ST at the New York International Auto Show. The car was designed to take part in global road and touring car racing
It’s believed that Ford will be assisted by Arena Motorsport. The team was also involved in the A1GP, Formula Three, Le Mans and even Formula One in the late 80s. Arena team principal Mike Earle said that the team is studying the build of a WTCC car and that this evaluation project with Ford is likely to be ready this November. The Ford Focus race car, which was displayed at the 2011 NYIAS, is fitted with the 2.0-liter Ford EcoBoost I-4 engine. It is the first product of the collaborative effort between Ford and race teams worldwide that have used Focus race cars and won. The Focus race car concept was built to meet circuit racing rules in the U.S. and elsewhere.
