Chana ERA Star pick-up will sell for RM33,688.00
The local SME market can expect a boost in the form of an affordable, reliable and efficient pick-up truck with the Chana ERA Star now available in Malaysia, after having made its mark as the number one mini truck in China consecutively from 2006 to 2010.
The multi-platform truck is produced by Changan Automobile, which is ranked as No.1 in China; based on its total production of 1,102,683 units in 2010. Changan Automobile is also ranked No. 17 in terms of total motor vehicles manufactured in the world, for the year 2010. Changan Automobile is in turn part of the China Changan Automobile Group, the 4th largest in China’s automotive industry; which produced 2,378,052 units in 2010.
Sales of the Chana ERA Star increased by over 44 per cent in China alone in 2010 to capture more than 27 per cent of the market share which made it the largest single brand in the market. Powered by a 1.3 litre engine, which produces 58kW of power and a maximum 110 kg.cm of torque, the Chana ERA Star it will now be available in Malaysia in a single cab, which can be converted to Luton, Wooden body and Box van versions. The Chana ERA Star pick-up will be sold at RM33,688.00 with a basic steel body and 5-speed manual transmission.
Local assembly of the affordable yet powerful and spacious pick-up truck has already begun at the Oriental Assemblers plant in Johor where the CKD vehicle is expected to roll off in the last quarter of 2011. Changan Berjaya Auto, the official distributor for Changan vehicles in Malaysia, plans to target SMEs and small traders, as well as small and new business owners who require a cost effective method of transporting their goods.
