Lotus Exige for 2012 Will Get A V6 Heart

Lotus is aiming to bridge the gap between its present range and its five-strong line-up of new sports cars that will arrive starting in 2013. Since December 2010, there have been no Exige’s built for the European market. It stopped when the Exige’s 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine failed to meet emissions regulations. Now strong rumors from within Lotus say that the 2012 Lotus Exige will be powered by a new V6 engine. A V6-equipped Exige test mule was spied when Lotus first tried to fit the Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre V6 from the Evora within the Exige’s mid-engined, rear-drive layout. This mule featured a considerably wider track as Lotus attempted to fit the engine in the Exige. The Exige was also seen testing at Lotus’ Hethel headquarters where it seemed to be nearly totally new from the B-pillars back. Revised front styling is also evident at the front.
