Starting in 2013, we will see the first front-wheel drive models from BMW, powered by three-cylinder engines and featuring carbon fiber bodywork. Moreover, the 3-Series lineup will receive new models such as the five-door GT, inspired by the 5-Series GT, but also the coupe and the convertible. The new 6-Series Gran Coupe will receive a facelift in about two years. MINI, the brand owned by BMW AG, will also receive new models starting in 2013. The MINI lineup will receive a new crossover model, inspired by the Paceman Concept, which will be a coupe version of the Countryman. Moreover, MINI models will also be restyled. By 2014, BMW will introduce the 1-Series GT, based on the platform used by MINI, with front-wheel drive. A 1-Series Touring might also be introduced, as well as a small sport city bike in order to take on Smart’s eBike.
There will be compact class vehicles using the new three-cylinder engines like the upcoming i8 hybrid sports car, due in 2014. The i3 will be introduced in 2013 and this model will also receive a three-cylinder engine. The i sub-brand, a whole new segment for BMW will be expanded starting with the i5 Van. Yes, don’t be surprised to see BMW commercial vehicles hitting showrooms to take a slice of the segment dominated by the Mercedes Viano and Volkswagen Caddy.
