Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd Signs Joint Venture Agreement With Mazda Motor Corporation

Bermaz Motor has officially entered into a highly significant Joint Venture with Mazda. This Joint Venture agreement is for a manufacturing program in Malaysia, a major development which underlines Mazda’s confidence in its Malaysian partner – Bermaz Motor. The objective of the Joint Venture is to increase more local assembly and manufacturing activities of Mazda models in Malaysia. This follows the initial start-up CKD Programme for the Mazda3 in INOKOM which will then be followed by the newly launched Mazda CX-5 with fully equipped SKYACTIV technology.
This will now allow Mazda to reduce production costs and thereby gain a more competitive advantage amongst the local car assemblers to support the sales and marketing efforts of its distributor, Bermaz Motor. Furthermore, the Joint Venture will be able to increase the localisation activities which would create more local vendors involvement in the Mazda Malaysian localization programme.
This Joint Venture programme is a logical extension of the business activities of Bermaz Motor in its handling of the Mazda brand in Malaysia, following a remarkable track record of achievements over a comparably short period of partnership between the two companies. The impressive total sales volume from year 2008 (991 units) until 2011 (6,131 units) connotes a high commitment of Bermaz Motor to Mazda which concurrently develop the trust of customers to the brand.
Bermaz Motor had previously launched several Mazda models which include Mazda6, Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda8, Mazda5 , Mazda CX-7, CX-9, RX-8, MX-5, BT-50 and the latest Mazda CX-5 from the year 2008 up to the current year. Recently, Bermaz Motor has also proudly launched its largest new showroom and corporate headquarters which aims to make the ownership of a Mazda vehicle a proud and satisfying endeavor aswell as providing an industry standard-setting service centre.
Judging from this impressive track record, the two companies are looking forward to a stronger market representation for the Mazda brand via the new establishment of “Mazda Malaysia Sdn Bhd”, a joint venture between Bermaz Motor and Mazda which will be helmed by Mr Shinji Sakatani as the first CEO of this new company.
The signing ceremony for this Joint Venture agreement was held today – the 11th of September, 2012 – at the Mazda 4S Centre, which is also the Bermaz Motor HQ, at Glenmarie, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. During the commemorative ceremony in attendance is Mr Yuji Nakamine, Senior Executive Officer (SEO) of Mazda Corporation and Mr Shinji Sakatani, (CEO) of Mazda Malaysia, YBhg Dato’ Ben Yeoh, Managing Director of Bermaz Motor, YBhg Dato’ Francis Lee, Executive Director of Bermaz Motor and YBhg Dato’ Amer Hamzah, Executive Director of Prima Merdu.
