MERCEDES-BENZ Malaysia Registers A 9% Sales Increase For 2012

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia broke new ground with another record breaking achievement in 2012, to register a 9 per cent increase in sales of 8085 units of passenger cars and commercial vehicles, up from 7400 units in the previous year. Sales of passenger cars rose 7 per cent to 5809 units from 5431 in 2011 while the commercial vehicle sales grew an impressive 13 per cent to 2229 vehicles from 2036 vehicles in the same period. Mercedes-Benz’s core C and E-Class maintained their momentum accounting for almost 88 per cent of total car sales. Deliveries of the C-Class were up 18 per cent to 2651 units while the E-Class kept pace with 2453 units delivered, up from 2276 in the previous year.

The trendy and elegant styling of the C and E-Class respectively combined with the fuel efficient CGI Blue EFFICIENCY engines attributed to the popularity and demand among the premium segment motoring public. In the C-Class segment, the C200 CGI EL variant accounted for more than 50 per cent of sales followed by the C250 and C180 models while the E200 remained the top performer with more than half the cars sold in the segment and followed closely by the E250. The introduction of the latest generation Mercedes-Benz-B class B200 variant in July registered strong sales in the second half of 2012 with 378 units sold. The debut of the B200 in July kick started the sales momentum and it is expected to carry forward in 2013.

Boasting the most number of new innovations ever introduced in one model, the second generation B-Class presents a quantum leap in offerings including the world’s first in the compact segment, a radar-based collision warning system and adaptive Brake Assist as standard, which considerably lowers the risk of collisions. The new B-Class also offers greater agility, efficiency, spaciousness and comfort while sporting an all new drive program encompassing a four-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection and turbocharging, a seven speed gear and a new 7G-dual clutch automatic transmission with several new assistance systems to support the driver

Meanwhile, sales of the M-Class premium SUV grew 67 per cent to 85 units on the back of the introduction of the new M-Class in July. The latest generation petrol engine ensures excellent economy of the new M-Class. Consuming 25 per cent less fuel than its predecessor, the new M-Class is one of the most economical vehicles in its segment.
In addition to the permanent all-wheel drive, the new M-Class offers exceptional safety and well-balanced ride comfort as well as excellent driving dynamics on and off the road with an array of new chassis developments and innovative dynamic control systems which further enhance both driving enjoyment and handling safety.
In the commercial vehicles segment, MBM delivered 12 per cent more vehicles, with sales of Mitsubishi FUSO trucks growing 25 per cent to 2180 units from 1756 units in the previous year while acquisition of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles dropped to 96 units from 280 units in 2011. The Mitsubishi FUSO Canter FG4X4, the first CKD four wheel drive commercial truck in Malaysia, which made its debut in February 2012 attracted strong buying interest to register sales of 219 vehicles or 10 per cent of MBM’s total commercial vehicles sales. MBM is confident of growing Mercedes-Benz’s equity in the premium automotive and also the commercial vehicles segments in 2013.
