MERCEDES-BENZ MALAYSIA TO INJECT RM100M MORE INTO ASSEMBLY PLANT

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) is celebrating its 10th year anniversary by revealing its plans to invest another RM100 million in its assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang over the next 5-years. MBM’s investments which will begin this year are in line with new model introductions and will be geared towards advancing the plant to accommodate these additions. At present, the plant assembles the luxury S-Class, E-Class and C-Class passenger vehicles, as well as Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi FUSO commercial vehicles.
Since 2004, MBM has invested approximately RM250 million in the plant. In its first full year of production in 2005, MBM produced over 2188 units of passenger cars. MBM achieved its highest production output with 5168 passenger vehicles and 2779 commercial vehicles in 2012. Over the years, since establishing itself in Pekan, MBM has steadily increased its output to meet market demands and recorded an average growth rate of 13%. As at April 2013 the MBM plant has produced 29,084 passenger vehicles and over 15,174 commercial vehicles. 
In addition to being ISO 9001, 14001, TS16949 and ISO 18001 certified, the Mercedes-Benz quality concept is also implemented at the plant. Consisting of four integrated control systems, the comprehensive quality checks ensure that all vehicles meet the superior Mercedes-Benz international standard. MBM’s has looked towards the local area to employ local talent for its plant. The plant is staffed by more than 1200 local employees and is supported by two foreign specialists. MBM currently operates three assembly lines on its 339,000 m2plant which is located on 895,000 sqm of land in Kawasan Perindustrian Peramu Jaya, Pekan.
