0Lotus Joins LMP1 Endurance Racing or 2014
Lotus has announced plans to step up to the LMP1 class of this year’s World Endurance Championship. The Kodewa-backed squad will field a single vehicle based on the T129 race car that was used in the LMP2 category last season.
Lotus becomes the fifth team to join LMP1 and will compete against factory-backed Audi, Toyota and Porsche, and privateer Rebellion Racing. All four teams will field two cars each, meaning we’ll get to enjoy a nine-car top tier grid this year.
In related news, Strakka is moving back into LMP2 after spending two season in the top prototype class. The LMP2 category will also feature Millennium Racing, G-Drive Racing, SMP Racing and KCMG.
The 2014 World Endurance Championship will kick off on April 20 with the 6 Hours of Silverstone. The final race of the season is scheduled on November 30, in Brazil.
