Suzuki to boost European lineup with 2 new models

Suzuki will debut two concept cars at next month’s Geneva auto show. Production versions of the concepts will be “additional cars in the range.” Media reports have said that a production version of the iM-4 could replace the Jimny, but the spokesperson said the automaker will update the Jimny to meet the new Euro 6 emissions standard.

For now the new cars are condenamed as the iK-2 subcompact hatchback. This previews a car that will sit alongside the Swift subcompact, the brand’s best-seller in Europe.

The next model is th iM-4 subcompact SUV. This showcases a new model that will go on sale alongside the SX4 S-Cross and Jimny crossovers.

Suzuki will roll out its new Vitara subcompact crossover in Europe starting in March. The Vitara will be sold across Europe while the larger SX4 subcompact crossover is sold in select markets, including Germany. Suzuki sales rose 7 percent to 162,828 in the EU and EFTA markets last year, lifting the brand’s market share one one percentage point to 1.3 percent, according to industry association ACEA.

European sales of the Swift fell 3 percent to 49,842 in 2014, according to data from JATO Dynamics. Sales of the Jimny rose 2 percent to 10,835. SX4 sales halved to 13,955, while the volume for SX4 C-Cross increased almost fourfold to 39,208 units, JATO’s figures show.
