Renault’s Improves Zoe’s Electric Mileage

The 2015 Renault Zoe – sibling to the Nissan Leaf – will receive a slight update to its hardware and software to increase its range. The fully electric Zoe, which was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, will get an extra 30 kilometres of range, extending the number of kilometres it can cover on a single charge from 210 to 240.

This is upgrade comes thanks in no small part to its new, lightweight and efficient R240 electric motor, which was developed by Renault. The revamped model comes with another marginal improvement in the form of a new charging system.

Compared to the outgoing model, the 2015 Zoe gets an additional kilometre of range for every minute it is plugged in. With the new system, the new car can be fully charged in 10% less time than its predecessor.

Although Renault did not publicise the changes to the 2015 model too much, CEO Carlos Ghosn did make an announcement during this year’s Geneva Auto Show stating that they planned to cross the 300 kilometre range threshold with the Zoe eventually. This, he said, would be done in stages. First with this 30 kilometre boost, and later on with an additional 40.
