Bridgestone Malaysia Conducts Eco-Conservation Initiative with its Dealers
Problems which have an effect beyond national borders like greenhouse effect, depletion of ozone layer, air and water pollutions, depletion of rain forests, are all growing on a global scale. In addition, the rapid rate of industrialisation and population growth has further aggravated the pollution problems. Recognising the pressing need for conservation of the environment, Bridgestone Group is taking initiative to promote biodiversity to help ensure not only sustainability but also a healthy, vibrant future.
“In balance with nature” – Bridgestone Group’s long-term environmental vision is a commitment to contribute to biodiversity through habitat enhancement, environmental education and research. In this context, Bridgestone Malaysia has taken efforts towards eco-conservation through engagement of Bridgestone products and the consumers. One such effort was the “One Tyre, One Good Deed” environmental campaign launched in 2010.
Since 2010, Bridgestone Malaysia has been collaborating with Global Environment Centre (GEC) in the Raja Musa Forest Rehabilitation programme. Now in its 5th year running, Bridgestone Malaysia together with its business partner, wholesalers and Bridgestone PRO Shop retail channel nationwide participated in the tree planting initiative at the Raja Muda Forest Reserve on 8th October. In the two hours activity, 55 attendees from Bridgestone Malaysia and dealers braced the hazy weather to plant 350 seedlings in the degraded forest.
Besides contributing manpower, Bridgestone Malaysia also makes a RM20,000 contribution to GEC to facilitate forest rehabilitation efforts at Raja Musa Forest Reserve. These include improving water management, fire prevention, replanting of seedlings, capacity building, raising public awareness and reforestation exercises to restore biodiversity of the forest.
In line with Bridgestone Group’s environmental mission – “to help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations” – Bridgestone Malaysia will continue to collaborate with its many stakeholders in order to realise a sustainable society.
