Perodua Bezza Makes Its Debut In Sri Lanka

The Bezza makes its debut in Sri Lanka yesterday in a big event launch organised by Perodua’s official distributor, Unimo Enterprises Ltd.

Sri Lanka is the largest export market for the Perodua brand has so far seen 14,000 units sold between 1997 and 2017 (as at end May). Currently Unimo imports the Axia, which sold 1, 400 units last year and now the Bezza.

“We (Perodua) are still relatively small in Sri Lanka but we see a lot of potential as the country’s economy expands,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said at the launch.

The Malaysia High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, graced the event.

“Starting this year, we are seriously looking at further expanding our current export markets and studying new ones as we work to realise our vision of becoming a regional player,” Aminar said.

Since 1997, Perodua has exported five models to Sri Lanka, which are the Kancil, Kenari, Kelisa, Viva and Bezza.

“We wish to thank Perodua for all the support it has shown Unimo over the past 21 years and we look forward to growing the Perodua brand in this country,” Unimo Group Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director Chanaka Yatawara said.

“We believe that the Bezza will be well accepted in Sri Lanka as this car has all the features that appeals to all; it is spacious, well designed, fuel efficient and versatile – a winning combination,” he added.

The Perodua Bezza 1.0L (automatic transmission) is priced at 3.69 million Sri Lankan Rupees (RM103,162.29).

Overall, Perodua has exported 1,600 units this year (from January to May 2017) to six countries, including to Indonesia under the Daihatsu’s Sirion badge.

“Since we started our export programme, we have exported 75,000 vehicles. At its height, we exported to 21 different countries,” Aminar said.
