What Happens to Older EV Batteries? Nissan Finds a Use

Restored EV batteries are getting more and more abundant now. Nissan has been looking for creative ways to give these batteries a second lease at life and their latest collaboration with OPUS Campers shows one possible avenue.

These old batteries have been repurposed into the ‘Nissan Energy ROAM’. Think of it as a large but portable weatherproof power bank. In this particular use case, campers can get up to a week’s worth of remote power.

This is down to the rather large storage capacity of 700Wh, adapted from 1st generation Nissan electric vehicles like the initial LEAF.

To recharge the battery remotely, a solar panel accessory can be used. At home, a regular 230v domestic socket can charge it up quicker.
