With the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition,Ducati celebrates the twin cylinder engine that marked the history of theSuperbike World Championship. From Marco Lucchinelli’s first victory with the851 in 1988 at the first race in the history of the World Superbike Championship,to 2017 with the victories of Chaz Davies on the Panigale R, the twin cylinderfrom Borgo Panigale has always been a top performer of the SuperbikeChampionship.
The Final Edition is a truly special bikethat pays homage to an engine that has made Ducati history and written some ofthe most thrilling chapters of the World Superbike Championship. For thisreason, they were produced in only 1,299 numbered bikes and each of them isembellished with a certificate of authenticity, sent to the customer, whichgives even more value to this milestone between the Bologna-builttwin-cylinders.
This built-in-Bologna gem offersunparalleled technology, performance and design. Each 1299 Panigale R FinalEdition is a Euro 4 compliant road bike. An offshoot of the 1299 Superleggeraengine, the Final Edition Superquadro packs a 209 hp* punch at 11,000 rpm and atorque of 14.5 kgm at 9,000 rpm. It features a lighter crankshaft with a largercrank pin and tungsten balancing pads, while the con-rods, like theintake-exhaust valves, are made of titanium. As on Superbike engines, the two116 mm diameter pistons have just two segments and slide on steel cylinderliners.
Co-developed with Ducati Corse, theultra-compact monocoque structure incorporates the airbox and plays a pivotalrole in limiting the dry weight of the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition to just179 kg. The chassis set-up features mechanical Öhlins suspension and a headstockrake of 24°.
Equally sophisticated and light is thecomplete all-titanium Akrapovič exhaust with high dual silencer (Euro 4compliant), exactly like the one on the Panigale R that has just ended itsparticipation in the World Superbike championship.
The electronics package features the BoschInertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and is equipped with ABS Cornering, DucatiWheelie Control (DWC) EVO, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO and Engine BrakeControl (EBC). These systems have default settings linked to the selectedRiding Mode (Race, Sport and Wet) but can be personalised as desired.
Top-drawer tech content and the tricolourlivery ensure the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is set to gain cult statusamong the vast community of Ducati twin-cylinder aficionados.
