Selling Beyond Expectations, Toyota C-HR
Yes, this Toyota crossover caused a huge stir months before its was launched in Malaysia due to its avant garde designer looks. When its arrival was announced in Malaysia, our very one social media posting hit an all time high for 2018 and it still remains the top read article for 2018. That was just the announcement of its arrival and a predicted price from us.
Then some months later in March it arrived, fully imported at a selling price of RM145,500 which was slightly higher than all of its rivals. UMW Toyota Malaysia was worried about consumer reaction. Well, the first batch from Japan was sold out as it was being driven of the roll on roll of ship it came in and months later its sales momentum has not slowed down despite strong competition in its segment.
Today, the Toyota C-HR continues to sell at a rate of 150-180 units a month (current price with SST is RM150,000) which is good news for UMW Toyota and buyers are happy with their stylish crossover.
The C-HR is sold in Malaysia with a DVD Player working with a 7″ Capacitive Touch Screen, there is Smartphone Connectivity, Wi-Fi, Internet Browser, Voice Recognition, HDMI, USB, Bluetooth® & a clear defined Reverse Camera.
Taking into consideration the requirements and conditions in the ASEAN region, the C-HR engineers chose the Toyota 2ZR-FBE petrol engine which is from the ZR engine family that is used in a wide range of Toyota models. As with virtually all modern Toyota engines, the 1.8-litre 4-cylinder powerplant has dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) with 4 valves per cylinder and Dual VVT-I (computer managed, continuously variable valve timing at the intake and exhaust ports).
Its safety features include ABS as standard with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), also fitted with 7 Airbags and Traction Control (TRC) as well as Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and a Blind Spot Monitoring system (BSM). The C-HR is also equipped with an Electric Parking Brake and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards while moving on a steep slope.
Like other Toyota models imported and distributed by UMW Toyota Motor, the C-HR comes with a 5-year comprehensive warranty. There is no mileage limit on this warranty which is fully backed by Toyota. During the first 5 years of ownership after registration, the warranty can be transferred to the next owner of the vehicle if it is sold off. Full aftersales support, including replacement parts, will be available through the network of authorised Toyota service centres nationwide.
