Borgward Opens Its Doors In Glenmarie Malaysia
Yes, it is finally open and you can take a visit this week or wait till the weekend to visit the Borgward showroom to get a closer look at their range of SUVs. Only one model in two variants are on sale right now with a third model waiting in the wings for approval to sell.
So where is Borgward from?
Well, the https://www.borgward.com/Borgward Group AG is the reincarnation of the German automaker that ceased operations in 1961. Then in 2015 the company was resurrected with Chinese investment from Beiqi Foton Motor and later this was taken over 67% by Chinese company Ucar who is controlled by Changsheng Xingye Enterprise Management Consulting, a company based in Xiamen in Fujian province.
Borgward opened a plant in Beijing early 2016. Occupying an area of 1.10 million square metres, the new factory has a maximum annual capacity of 160,000 units, which can increase to 360,000 units in its proposed second phase.
The new plant is based on the German Industry 4.0 concept, and will strictly comply with the German manufacturing and quality management system standards.
Models On Sale
The BX5 will be available in two engine variants, drivetrain and transmission options, the 1.4-litre TGDI (Priced from RM118,000) and the 2.0-litre TGDI 9Priced from RM138,000).
The 1.4-litre engine option can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic, while the 2.0-litre variant will be mated only to the automatic transmission. There will also be the four-wheel drive (4WD) option for the 2.0-litre variant.
For the 1.4-litre engine, it generates 148hp at 5,500rpm and 250Nm of torque from 1,750rpm to 4,000rpm. The 2.0-litre engine, meanwhile, produces 221hp at 5,500rpm and a maximum torque of 300Nm from 1,750rpm to 4,500rpm.
The 1.4-litre manual transmission variant, can reach a top speed of 190kph, while the automatic transmission variant’s top speed is 185kph.
The BX5 Size
Well, this SUV is about the same size as a Proton X70 and it measures at 4,490mm in length, 1,877mm in width and 1,675mm in height, the BX5 weighs between 1,542kg and 1,670kg, depending on its variant.
BX5 Features
With a sporty and modern exterior design, the BX5’s standard equipment includes 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels (depending on variant), LED daytime running lights, multi-function electronic powered leather steering wheel, front-ventilated disc brakes, rear-disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, MacPherson front suspensions, rear multi-link suspensions, a floating 8-inch touchscreen display, rear park assist with distance display and a reverse camera.
Other equipment, such as the Xenon headlights, power-folding side mirrors, powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, automatic anti-glare rear-view mirror, leather seats, powered adjustable driver seats, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning system, 8-speaker Hi-Fi stereo system, keyless entry with push to start button and 360 park assist, are available according to variant.
Standard safety list includes four to six airbags, vehicle stability control, anti-lock braking system, brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, electronic differential system and the ISOFIX child seat mounting points.
