2019 Toyota Classics Concert Raises RM398,000

Late last month, UMW Toyota and Toyota Motor Asia Pacific hosted the 29th Toyota Classics Concert at the Dewan Filmharmonik Petronas. Last year’s performance raised RM363,000, meaning they raised RM35,000 more this year.

In line with Toyota’s new CSR goals to ‘Start You Impossible’, the proceeds will be donated to worthy causes that advocate environmental sustainability and youth development.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) in collaboration with Toyota Motor Asia Pacific brings together the annual Toyota Classics Concert while raising proceeds for worthy causes advocating environment sustainability and youth development.

Featuring the prestigious London Chamber Orchestra, this year’s concert was held at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC on 29th October 2019.  

At the concert, the audience was amazed with the talented musicians performing under the guidance of principal conductor Christopher Warren-Green, and 20-year-old trumpet soloist Lucienne Renaudin Vary. The London Chamber Orchestra is the longest established professional chamber orchestra in the United Kingdom.

“Connecting audiences with orchestras from all over the world since 1990, the philosophy of Toyota Classics is fueled by a passion for constant innovation and discovery, marked by a common human purpose to constantly get more out of life. With this classical concert of Toyota Classics we hope to touch lives, far beyond the stage” said Akio Takeyama, the Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor.

“We are very glad that this year we have collected RM398,000 from corporate donations and ticket sales and we would like to thank all our affiliates, vendors, suppliers, private donors and classical music lovers for their contribution,” said Mr. Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.

He also said that, the company is proud of the achievement and will continue this yearly tradition of bringing classical music to audiences and raise funds to transform the lives of the people.

 “To date, UMW Toyota Motor has collected approximately RM9 million through Toyota Classics Charity concert to support 70 social, environment and charity organisations,” he added.

Recipients for this year’s Toyota Classics concert are the Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society and Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

The Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society project is planting up to 5,000 mangrove trees along the degrading mangrove areas in Sulaman, Tuaran, Sabah.  This huge project will involve around 13,000 students from neighbouring schools, local university and community members.

The second recipient is Universiti Malaysia Pahang where the students will be promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education among school children by teaching robotics through gamification, a 21st-century approach of integrating game-design elements for both teaching and learning activities.

This year, an added activity was organised, where the London Chamber Orchestra members conducted a workshop with students from the Faculty of Music, UiTM. The workshop was aimed to provide valuable exposure to an internationally performing orchestra which at the same time would help to develop our local arts and culture scene.

Since its foundation, Toyota Classics remains one of UMWT’s biggest Corporate Social Responsibility activations. It has enabled Malaysians to experience orchestratic performances conducted by various renowned artists, maestros and musicians while donating for a good cause.

Through the new CSR realignment, UMWT has added missions to realise impossible dreams through in its philanthropic pillar including Toyota Classics to be aligned with Toyota’s global corporate initiative called “Start Your Impossible”. Globally, Toyota aim to inspire its employees, partners and customers to achieve greater heights by attempting missions that they themselves deem impossible – a core company belief that has inspired boundless of innovations, transforming the company from that of an automotive to a mobility manufacturer.
