Autophiles Malaysia Dissect the Proton X70 For 30 Minutes

With the locally-assembled 2020 Proton X70 around the corner, Autophiles Malaysia thought it would be a great time to publish a 360 Sit Around of the car. This is the 2nd video in the series, in which we take our time sitting around a car commenting on design, execution and functionality. The first car to be featured was the 2019 Toyota Vios.

We found the 2018 Proton X70 to be rather well built. There were genuine premium design features, with quite a bit of sound deadening material, multi-layered materials, and good execution throughout. Of course, it’s not a perfect car. There are no perfect cars.

The X70’s GKUI system has a few drawbacks, as discussed in the video. Baidu navigation, and a few poorly executed digital interfaces marred the functionality. While poor material choice in the door cards showed how the car might age poorly under harsh usage.

Despite those drawbacks, the overall package was undeniably excellent. It burst onto the scene offering better value for money than some of the traditional Japanese and Korean competitors. Will it age as gracefully as some of these cars though? Only time will tell.

You can also read the article we wrote, inspired by the test unit featured in the video here. Or check out the Sights & Sounds video of the Geely Boyue, upon which this X70 is almost entirely based here.
