Audi Q3 Is The Crossover That You Forgot To Test Drive

If you’re looking to reward yourself with your first premium vehicle, crossovers and SUVs are probably high on your list. These types of vehicles are in vogue right now because they maximise usable interior space while having the rugged attributes of off-roaders. While mid-sized and larger SUVs are able to deliver on the promise of large interiors and comfort, compact crossovers tend to struggle in this department. But not the Audi Q3. The Q3 was designed from the ground up to be more spacious and ergonomic than any of its rivals.

From the outside, the Q3 builds on Audi’s current design language with sharper lines and a sportier profile than its predecessor. The next thing you’ll notice is the large and octagonal Singleframe grille which stretches to join the two slim headlight clusters. Chrome bars adorn the grille in vertical and horizontal stacks, enhancing the Q3’s imposing look. The bumpers and side skirting take on a dual tone appearance that plays into the aggressive SUV look.

Compared to the 1st generation Q3, this 2nd generation model is noticeably larger. At a full 97mm longer and 25mm wider, the new Q3 is sizeable in its segment. The additional length is put to good use as well, with 77mm being added the wheelbase. This means better comfort than the previous model as well as more legroom than before. Plus, being a little higher off the ground than a sedan or hatchback, the Q3 is easier to get in and out of while also offering better visibility to the driver.

Part of the reason why this Q3 is so much more spacious than one might expect is down to the MQB platform upon which it is built. The clever engineering behind this chassis allowed Audi to better package the vehicle, minimising intrusions into the cabin without compromising on the drive dynamics and character. As such, you get a functional luxury crossover that’s capable of delivering on Audi’s legendary nimble handling. Even with a front-wheel drive setup, the 1.4 TFSI engine and 6-speed dual clutch gearbox is more than enough to turn your everyday city commute into a fun little adventure.

Even if you’re just pottering around in typical Malaysian traffic, the Audi Q3 has a few tricks up its sleeve. The Virtual Cockpit is definitely one of them. It comes standard on our Malaysian spec and it makes the Q3 feel a whole generation ahead of its rivals with a 10.25” digital interface right in front of your eyes at all times. The interior of the Q3 is a great mix of luxury and athleticism with intuitive tech features sprinkled in.

Perhaps that best describes the Audi Q3 as a whole. It’s one of the largest and most comfortable in this segment, makes great use of high-tech equipment and dresses itself up to highlight its premium, sporty brand values.

For this month, Euromobil is offering the Q3 with interest rates as low as 0%. This is on top of the revised 2020 price, which has been brought down by more than RM9,000 thanks to the SST reduction on CBU cars. Check it out while the deal is available at your nearest Euromobil showroom.
