Toyota Fortuner Facelift Coming To Malaysia (Updated w Price)
You may have heard by now that Toyota Malaysia has a thoroughly updated Hilux on the market, even bringing in the Hilux Rogue 2.8 model for true enthusiasts of the brand. It came to the Thai market back in June 2020, and they followed it up with the facelift of the Fortuner – the passenger-oriented sibling to the Hilux. Now that facelift model of the Fortuner is strongly rumoured to be arriving in early January 2021.
Just like the new Hilux, Toyota are splitting the Fortuner model range between the base model powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine and a specially engineered model called the Fortuner Legender with the 2.8-litre diesel. We’ve shared the press release below from the Thailand launch to give you an idea of how it’s specified there – though our local spec will see some changes given that the Fortuner is locally-assembled in Shah Alam.
In fact, it’s quite likely our 2.7-litre petrol will carry on being sold in Malaysia along with the 2.4-litre diesel as base models. The 2.8-litre high spec model might not even bear the ‘Legender’ name in Malaysia. Instead, it might continue to don the “VRZ” trim name and serve as the flagship model, replacing the full-spec 2.4-litre VRZ model from before.
Based on leaked information, we know some of the new features on the Fortuner include:
- Toyota Safety Suite
- Vehicle Telematics System
- Wireless Qi Charging
Good thing the government has extended the SST-free period for locally-assembled vehicles until the middle of 2021. Unlike the Hilux, which is a pickup truck, the Fortuner ought to be qualified for the tax break.
