Hyundai Staria Premium MPV Launched In Malaysia For RM358,888

The all-new Hyundai Staria is now in Malaysia. Will Malaysian MPV buyers bite?

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has introduced the first-ever, all-new Hyundai Staria. In Malaysia, this MPV arrives in just one 7-seater variant called the Staria Premium and is priced at RM358,888 OTR before insurance with the ongoing Penjana SST discount for fully imported vehicles.

The Hyundai Staria is marketed as an upmarket people mover which reimagines Hyundai as a Smart Mobility Solution provider, unlike the more conventionally designed Hyundai Grand Starex. Motivating the Staria is a 2.2-litre CRDi engine. This turbo-diesel motor is made in-house and features an air-cooled turbo, an improved compressor and turbine wheel performance to produce 177PS and 431Nm of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the Grand Starex, the Staria sits on a new Hyundai-Kia N3 platform that is natively front-wheel drive with multi-link rear suspension replacing the live axle.

It has a streamlined, spaceship-like design with large window glass and sleek exterior lines. The Staria measures 5253mm in length, 1997mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 3273mm.

The front of the Hyundai Staria is defined by the full-length horizontal daytime running light across the width of the vehicle. The headlamps are set low in front and flank a wide radiator grille. Tinted brass chrome is used as a finish on the Hyundai emblem, grille, headlamp bezels and other exterior trim on the bumpers, wheels, side mirrors, and door handles for an upmarket look. The rear lamps apply Parametric Pixel design that’s seen on Hyundai’s latest and greatest models like the EV6.

The Staria Premium comes with two individual Premium Relaxation Seats with electronic recline and sliding adjustments. A one-touch relaxation mode button automatically positions the seats in a comfortable recline that evenly distributes their body weight. Even in this mode, there’s enough space for an additional adult to sit in the rearmost row thanks to how spacious the layout is. In different seating configurations, as much as 5,000 litres of boot space can be freed up for cargo hauling.

The cabin features a high-tech 10.25″ display, touch-sensitive infotainment and a button-type electronic shift lever. The Staria comes equipped with a wide-angle in-cabin camera for the driver and front passenger to keep an eye on passengers in the rear. To complement the Staria’s spaceship-like looks, the interior features 64-colour ambient mood lighting that illuminates the cockpit, console, doors and cargo areas. Hyundai has equipped the Staria with a Bose sound system.

In terms of safety, the Hyundai Staria comes equipped with Hyundai Smartsense safety suite, which includes:

  • Blind-spot View Monitor
  • Blind-spot Collision Avoidance Assist with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Following Assist
  • Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go
  • Forward Collission Avoidance Assist
  • Driver Attention Warning with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert
  • Parking Distance Warning
  • Surround View Monitor
  • Rear Occupant Alert

Warranty Package

The default warranty package lasts just 2 years or 50,000km but Hyundai will extend it to 5 years or 300,000km for an additional RM20,000. This RM20,000 add-on also comes with a 3-year or 50,000km free maintenance service package.
