Mazda BT-50 Open For Booking In Malaysia From RM124K

The all-new Mazda BT-50 pick-up truck is now open for booking for Malaysian customers.

Mazda may not be the first name you think of when it comes to pick-up trucks, but we’re willing to bet that their latest entry into the segment will be quite popular in Malaysia. The all-new Mazda BT-50 is now available to order in Malaysia at a price tag of RM124,179.20 for the 1.9L model and RM143,218.40 for the 3.0L model. It is only available as a twin cab with an automatic transmission, leaning more towards the ‘lifestyle’ pickup market.

For those unaware, the all-new BT-50 is now based on the latest generation Isuzu D-Max and is built on the same bones as that pick-up truck whereas the outgoing BT-50 shared its genes with the outgoing Ford Ranger. That being said, the new BT-50 should be looked at as a Mazda product, as Mazda did all the design work, and it features Mazda’s familiar switchgear, equipment and tuning.

New Mazda BT-50 Design

The exterior of this new BT-50 clearly shows a family resemblance to Mazda’s current SUV range with a similarly large grille and sharp headlights. Even the tailgate has been designed to flow towards the Mazda badge in the centre. Just like the BT-50s of the past, this is one pick-up truck that isn’t afraid of curves in its design.

Inside, the new BT-50 will be mostly familiar to Mazda customers. It features many familiar elements, such as the colour scheme, use of soft-touch materials and human-centric design. There is fine stitching applied to the dashboard, instrument panel hood and knee pads. The infotainment system, however, is not a Mazda part. It lacks the rotary dial that is seen in just about all their current vehicles.

However, it’s still a large display and it’s capable as well thanks to its Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. At the centre of the instrument cluster is a 4.2″ multi-info display. A rotary dial selector allows on-the-fly switching between 2WD, 4WD H and 4WD L

Mazda says that the cabin of their new BT-50 is aimed at delivering comfort levels on par with passenger vehicle thanks to wide and supportive seats, rear doors with wide openings and ample foot and knee room.

BT-50 Equipment

The all-new BT-50 comes in two configurations, depending on the engine. The 1.9L diesel engine and 3.0L diesel engine are both paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission that uses a compact geartrain structure and a high-response hydraulic control system for maximum efficiency. Standard on the BT-50 is a Rear Differential Lock.

Equipment includes: an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, rear air cond vents, 7 SRS airbags, ISOFIX mounting points, auto door locks, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Hill Launch Assist, and Hill Descent Control.

Advanced Driver Assist Systems are also present on the new BT-50. This includes Automatic High Beam, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Warning, Auto Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
