Chery January Sales: 101K Units Sold Globally, Nothing In M’sia Yet

Chery shows just how long their reach is globally.

Chery Group, the leading Chinese passenger car exporter, has begun 2023 with a bang, selling over 101,000 units globally in January. This marks its eighth consecutive month of sales surpassing 100,000 units since June 2022, posting a YoY growth of 16.5%. The Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 7 series are still going strong, with 10,856 and 12,768 units sold, respectively.

Last year was a record-breaking year for the company, with sales reaching 1.23 million units globally, including nearly half a million units outside of China, with a YoY growth of 68%. This feat was achieved through persistent mastery of core technologies via independent research and development, with the company boasting of five R&D centers worldwide and a 7,000+ strong R&D team, comprising of senior designers and engineers.

The company’s Tiggo 8 Pro mid-sized SUV continues to impress, with its high ranking in the 2022 JD Power Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) study, where it secured the second position in its segment. It has also won several awards, including the 2022 Most Innovative Model in Saudi Arabia, Best Medium-sized SUV of the Year in Mexico, and Best Mid-size Crossover Vehicle at the CAMPI Philippine International Motor Show.

Recently, at the 2023 Auto Award Ceremony held in Sao Paulo, the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV bagged the “Best Engine under 2.0 liters” award, while the Tiggo 8 was crowned “Best SUV of the Year” in Brazil. These awards signify Chery’s commitment to continuously innovate and improve its product offerings, contributing to its rapid growth in sales.

In September 2022, Chery unveiled its cutting-edge technology strategy for 2025, presenting a ‘Technology Chery’ that revolutionizes the traditional impression of the outside world. This layout not only covers multiple fields, such as traditional core technology and CASE technology but also spans various dimensions, such as basic systems, cutting-edge technologies, sharing platforms, digital economy, value chain, and ecosystem.
