Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25 Celebrates 25th Anniversary Milestone

The Volkswagen Polo GTI is now 25 years old and gets a special edition model.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI may not be as celebrated as the Golf GTI, but it’s still an iconic hot hatch in its own right, especially in certain parts of the world, such as South Africa. This year, it turns 25 years old and to mark this anniversary, Volkswagen have created a special ‘Edition 25’ model.

Only 2,500 units of the Polo GTI Edition 25 will be made at a price of €35,205 or around RM175,000 before excise duties when converted to our currency. The Polo GTI comes with a 2.0L turbocharged engine with an output of 207PS and 320Nm of torque. This is sent to the front wheels and alloys the hatch to complete the century sprint in just 6.5 seconds.

For the Edition 25, a specially-tuned sports suspension comes as standard, lowering the body by 15mm. What’s more, there’s an electronic differential lock (XDS), which helps improve traction and give drivers precise handling through hard corners.

In terms of exterior design highlights, the Polo GTI Edition 25 comes with red brake calipers and trim strips, a honeycomb design on the front grille and chrome-plated tailpipes. 18″ Adelaide alloy wheels in gloss black, a black roof and black wing mirror caps complete the two-tone look.

Inside, the Edition 25 comes as standard with premium sport seats wrapped in perforated black-red leather with a “25” logo. These seats get stitched GTI logos and gloss black decorative trims with red GTI lettering. A “One of 2500” logo is found on the sill panel. An exclusive colour for the Polo GTI Edition 25 is Ascot Grey, but the rest of the standard GTI colours, Pure White, Kings Red Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic, Smoke Grey Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect are all still available.
