European Premiere Of smart #3 Reveals More Specifications

The smart #3 might be coming to Malaysia after #1, so here’s what to expect.

smart Europe GmbH premiered the #3 at the 2023 IAA Mobility event following the electric crossover’s global debut at Auto Shanghai earlier this year. While the #3 and #1 look pretty similar at first glance, the #3’s bodystyle is considered an ‘crossover coupé’ due to its more steeply sloped roofline. Here they are pictured next to each other.

The smart #3 will be available in 4 trim levels. Here’s how it’s packaged for the German market:

  • smart #3 Pro+ for € 43,490
  • smart #3 Premium for € 46,490
  • smart #3 25th Anniversary Edition for € 46,990
  • smart #3 BRABUS € 50,990

smart #3 Pro+ is the entry model and it still commands a premium, so they’ve included some pretty high end features. It comes as standard with concealed door handles, a 12.8″ infotainment screen, highway and traffic jam assistants. A wirelesss charging pad is optional. This basic single motor version of the smart #3 comes with 200kW of power and has a maximum range of 455km. Fast charging up to 150kW is available on DC chargers. 22 kW AC charging is also available. 0-100km/h takes 5.8 seconds.

The Premium trim adds CyberSparks LED+ headlights, ambient lighting for the cabin, a Beats sound system.

On the BRABUS version, you get a 315kW output from a dual motor setup and a maximum range of 435km. It completes the century sprint in just 3.7 seconds, which is faster than the BRABUS tuned smart #1.

It might have something to do with its drag coefficient of 0.27cd. The BRABUS version comes with larger 20″ rims, sporty pedals, and a unique engine sound that’s piped in through the speakers.

The 25th Anniversary Edition gets the performance of the BRABUS model with the looks of the Premium trim, complete with a 13-speaker system, a 9.2″ digital instrument cluster and 10″ heads up display. This version comes exclusively in white with red highlights, black and white leather seats, and a panoramic galaxy roof.

While the new smart #3 does look quite enticing, it’s tough to see if it’ll do well in Malaysia. Already the excitement around the Tesla Model 3 for RM189K seems to be taking away sales from existing EVs and both premium and non-premium brands.
