With the pending arrival of the Tiggo 7 PRO in Malaysia, there is one immediate rival right now that should be a little worried. This good news shows a clear silver lining for Malaysian SUV buyers for the next 9 to 12 months.
There is the fast selling Proton X70 which is a rebadged Geely Auto SUV. Since its launch in December 2018, it has been fast to disrupt both the sedan and also SUV segments with its selling price from RM94,800.
This means, the facelift X70 will compete head to head with the Chery Tiggo 7 PRO SUV. The Tiggo 7 PRO will have an all digital driver’s cockpit, voice command, 3 digital screens and all the comfort and safety features to rival the X70. The Tiggo 7 PRO is a 5 seater SUV with 475L of cargo space.
Meanwhile, if you are willing to wait for this Tiggo 7 PRO, here are some interesting facts to digest. Chery will sell this Tiggo 7 PRO in Malaysia with a 1.6TGDI turbocharged engine that delivers 197hp and 290Nm of torque via a 7-speed DCT gearbox. It will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in just 8.3 seconds and will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels.
Meanwhile, the facelift X70 is powered by the same engine as used in the very popular Proton X50. This 1.5L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine has 180hp and 265Nm of torque working with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
The driver gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with multi-function steering wheel and the infotainment system is Android and Apple ready.
The Tiggo 7 PRO will be priced very very very close to the selling price of the Proton X70 …… just wait and see.
